Common Symptoms of Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis is a disease that most commonly affects the lungs. It is caused by bacteria called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The disease is spread through the air, when someone with the infection coughs or sneezes. Tuberculosis is generally divided into 2 categories, pulmonary tuberculosis and extrapulmonary tuberculosis.

Cough

Coughing is a common symptom of tuberculosis, affecting up to 90% of people with the disease. The cough is usually worse in the morning and may be accompanied by other symptoms such as fever, weight loss, and fatigue. A cough that lasts more than three weeks should be evaluated by a doctor, as it may be a sign of tuberculosis.
